Four St Marys College students in the Polly Farmer Follow the Dream program, recently had the extraordinary opportunity to visit the Rio Tinto West Angeles mine site in Karratha. This visit provided the students with an up-close look at the operations and processes of one of Australia’s largest mining companies. Guided tours allowed them to observe the mining techniques, safety protocols, and environmental management practices implemented at the site. The students were also able to engage with industry professionals, gaining valuable insights into the various career paths available in the mining sector.

They enjoyed the on-site activities and even beat the miner team in basketball. This visit was an exceptional experience for the students, offering them a real-world perspective on the industry and helping expose students to career opportunities. Thank you to Rio Tinto, The Polly Farmer Foundation and St Marys College for supporting this opportunity.
