Dance

At St Mary’s College Broome, we believe in fostering creativity, expression, and physical well-being through our vibrant Dance program. Additionally, our dance program offers unique opportunities for collaboration with other creative disciplines, such as music and drama, and offers an annual trip to Perth to compete against other CEWA schools in the Catholic Performing Arts Festival, enriching the overall learning experience of our students. Students who undertake dance as a subject, discover the joy of dance while developing discipline, self-expression, and a lifelong appreciation for the art form. 

Drama

The St Marys drama program is an exciting and inclusive community where students explore their creativity through acting and stagecraft. The program offers a variety of opportunities, including acting classes, rehearsals, and performances of both classic, contemporary and Indigenous plays. Textiles

The St Mary’s Textiles program is a dynamic and hands-on learning environment where students explore the world of fabric and design. The program offers a wide range of activities, including sewing, pattern making, and textile manipulation, allowing students to bring their ideas to life through fabric. Digital Technology

The St Mary’s Digital Technology program is an innovative and engaging learning platform where students delve into the world of digital technology, with a specific focus on 3D printing and 2D/3D Game Design. Whether you’re a tech enthusiast or curious about exploring new technologies, this program offers a diverse range of opportunities to develop your skills. In the 3D printing component, students learn how to design and create three-dimensional objects using computer-aided design (CAD) software and state-of-the-art 3D printers. From prototypes to functional models, students experience the thrill of turning their ideas into tangible creations.

Additionally, the program introduces students to the exciting field of Game design and coding. Through interactive workshops and project-based learning, students gain hands-on experience in designing and developing their own video games. They learn essential concepts such as game mechanics, level design, and storytelling, while using industry-standard software and tools. With the guidance of experienced instructors, students unleash their creativity and problem-solving skills to create immersive and visually stunning game experiences. Design Technology

The St Mary’s Design Technology program is an engaging and hands-on learning experience where students explore the realms of wood and metal craftsmanship. Whether you’re a budding designer or have a passion for creating tangible objects, this program offers a diverse range of opportunities to develop your skills. In the wood component, students learn woodworking techniques, including measuring, cutting, shaping, and assembling wood pieces to create functional and aesthetically pleasing projects. From crafting furniture to building intricate models, students gain a solid foundation in woodworking while honing their attention to detail and precision.

In addition to woodwork, the program also introduces students to the world of metal fabrication. Students learn metalworking skills such as cutting, welding, and shaping metal to create intricate structures and functional objects. From constructing metal sculptures to building small-scale prototypes, students gain hands-on experience in manipulating metal materials. With experienced teachers and a well-equipped workshop, the St Marys Design Technology program provides a supportive environment where students can unleash their creativity, problem-solving abilities, and craftsmanship. Visual Art

In visual arts we explore a range of media including ceramics, painting, drawing, sculpture, and mixed media. Students have access to a wide variety of high-quality resources and are taught specific skills and techniques in the use of traditional and contemporary tools and equipment. Learning is enriched through art theory education and exposure to a range of local, contemporary and historical artists and their works. 

Students utilise creative thinking strategies such as SCAMPER to develop new, and original ideas. They develop visual art literacy skills through verbal and written assessments, responding to and judging the works of others.   We apply our digital literacy skills in our learning to enrich our research, design and development and creation of new ideas.

Students at St Mary’s have achieved success in local and state competitions and can choose to enter pathways in senior schooling that includes ASDAN, Certificate II in Visual Arts, General Visual Art and ATAR Visual Art. 

Languages

The St Marys language program is an immersive and enriching experience where students embark on a journey of linguistic and cultural exploration. Whether you’re a beginner or have a strong interest in languages, this program offers a wide range of opportunities to develop your language skills. Through interactive lessons, conversation practice, and cultural activities, students not only learn how to read, write, and speak in a foreign/indigenous language but also gain a deeper understanding of the customs, traditions, and perspectives of different cultures. With dedicated teachers and a supportive environment, the St Marys Language program provides a platform for students to expand their global awareness, enhance their communication abilities, and foster an appreciation for diversity.

The high school music program is a vibrant and inclusive programme where students explore their passion for music. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced musician, there’s a place for you to grow and express yourself. The program offers a wide range of opportunities, including instrument work, band, and orchestra, where you can learn to play different instruments or develop your vocal skills. Through rehearsals, performances, and music theory lessons, students build their musical abilities while also fostering teamwork and creativity. With dedicated teachers and a supportive environment, Music is a place where you can find your voice and discover the joy of making music together.
