Our Year Six students hosted a Christian Service Learning Market Fair, raising nearly $300 for Our Lady Queen of Peace Cathedral. This lunchtime event showcased the students’ dedication to community service and their commitment to supporting our local community.
The market fair featured a variety of stalls, including homemade crafts, baked goods, and games, all organised and managed by our Year Six students, staff and families. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and enthusiasm as students and staff came together to support the cause. Activities such as bottle flipping, soccer penalty shootouts, and crazy hair stations added to the fun, while others enjoyed refreshing lemonade, fairy bread, and jelly cups.
This event was part of the Year Six students’ Eucharist unit in Religion, where they explored how Jesus calls us to care for others and serve those in need. The students were challenged to plan, create, and run ‘Service Stalls’ during lunchtime, using their unique gifts and talents to serve others. Their hard work and dedication reflect the values of Christian service learning that St. Mary’s College strives to instil in all of our students.
Father Liam and Father Patricio joined the Market Fair, expressing their gratitude and appreciation to the students and staff. They highlighted the wonderful partnership between the college and parish communities.
The success of the Market Fair is a testament to the remarkable initiative and compassion of the Year Six students. Their efforts not only raised funds but also demonstrated outstanding leadership, creativity, and generosity. We are extremely proud of these young students and looks forward to their next Market Fair. Well done, Year Six!
