Last Friday, Year 2 Janun transformed into a team of Pokémon Trainers and Mathematicians as they set off on a special Pokémon Measurement Mission!
Armed with their very own Pokédex, students chose a range of Pokémon to measure. Before beginning, they made predictions about which Pokémon would be the longest and shortest. Then, the real challenge began! Using informal units such as pop sticks, cubes and paperclips, students carefully measured each Pokémon from end to end and recorded their results in their Pokédex. Once all the Pokémon had been measured, it was time to capture them all!
Students then compared their measurements to identify the longest and shortest Pokémon they had measured. They also explored how using different informal units changed the number recorded, helping them understand that the unit used can affect the measurement.
The classroom was filled with excitement as students worked together, checked each other’s measurements and proudly shared their discoveries. It was a fun and engaging way to develop our understanding of measuring length!
