Our Pre-primary to Year 3 students recently enjoyed a very special excursion to Broome Public Library to meet acclaimed author and illustrator Kelly Canby.
For many of our young readers, it was an exciting opportunity to step beyond the classroom and experience the magic of books in a new way. Kelly captivated students with her engaging storytelling, creative illustrations and insights into the process of bringing a story from an idea to the page.
Students discovered that authors and illustrators don’t simply create stories—they experiment, imagine, problem-solve and make creative choices along the way. Kelly shared her experiences as an author and illustrator, giving our students a wonderful glimpse into the world of children’s publishing.
The visit was filled with curiosity, laughter and plenty of inspiration as students listened, watched and participated in the session. Seeing an author bring stories to life helped our students make a meaningful connection between the books they enjoy and the people who create them.
A huge thank you to Broome Public Library for welcoming our students and to Kelly Canby for sharing her creativity, stories and passion for books with us. We are sure many of our budding authors and illustrators left the library feeling inspired to pick up a pencil, open a book and create a story of their own!
What a wonderful reminder that every great story begins with a little imagination.
