Students from St Mary’s College recently put their creativity, problem-solving skills and digital talents to the test by participating in the 2026 CNA Minecraft ‘Build the Change’ Challenge.
Run by Catholic Network Australia, the national challenge invited students from Years 3–9 to use Minecraft Education to design and create a meaningful sacred space reflecting their understanding of faith, culture and community. Students were encouraged to consider how sacred spaces can bring people together, promote understanding and inspire reflection, while using symbolism and thoughtful design to communicate the meaning behind their creations.
This year’s competition attracted an incredible 2,682 students from schools across Australia, with 412 Minecraft designs submitted for judging.
St Mary’s College students enthusiastically embraced the challenge, demonstrating creativity and thoughtful connections to the competition theme. Among the many entries received nationally, two St Mary’s entries were selected as finalists.
Kaino was recognised as a finalist for his cultural design, while Everly and Mhaneil were also named finalists for their collaborative creation.
Being selected from hundreds of entries across Australia was a wonderful achievement and a fantastic recognition of the thought, creativity and effort the students put into their designs.
Congratulations to Kaino, Everly and Mhaneil, as well as all of our students who participated in the 2026 Minecraft Build the Change Challenge. We are very proud of the way our students used technology not simply to build, but to creatively explore the importance of faith, culture and community.
