Our College Broome was delighted to welcome students from Kururrungku Catholic School , Billiluna, for a special visit designed to give them a glimpse into life at our secondary campus and explore future opportunities for transitioning to our College or a secondary school.
Throughout the visit, students toured the College, met staff and students, and experienced some of the learning environments and opportunities that make St Mary’s such a vibrant place to learn and grow. The visit provided a valuable opportunity for students to gain a better understanding of what secondary schooling looks like and to begin building confidence about their future educational journey.
A highlight of the visit after leaving us, was a tour of the Broome Residential College, where students were able to see firsthand the outstanding facilities and supportive environment available to boarding students. It was wonderful for them to experience what a welcoming ‘home away from home’ the Residential College provides for young people who travel from remote communities to continue their education.
The Kururrungku Catholic School students were fantastic ambassadors for their school and already demonstrated the St Mary’s College expectations of being their best by being Kind, Respectful and Responsible throughout their visit. Their positive attitude, curiosity and engagement impressed everyone they met.
It was especially heartwarming to see students reconnect with family members, friends and former classmates who are already studying at our college. These connections are so important in helping students feel comfortable and confident as they consider future pathways beyond their home community.
We are incredibly grateful to the dedicated staff from Kururrungku Catholic School for their support and commitment to providing these opportunities for their students. You should feel very proud of the young people you brought to visit us. We look forward to continuing to strengthen our partnership and welcoming many of these students back to St Mary’s College in the future.
