St Mary’s College Broome, Broome Residential College and our CEWA Transition Unit recently embarked on our annual Kimberley Roadshow, creating valuable opportunities to connect with families, communities and schools across the Kimberley region.

The roadshow provided an important opportunity to meet with past, current and future students and their families, strengthening the partnerships that help young people successfully transition to life and learning in Broome at our colleges.

Throughout the journey, the team was warmly welcomed into communities and schools including Luurnpa Catholic School, Balgo; John Pujajangka-Piyirn Catholic School, Mulan; Kururrungku Catholic Education Centre, Billiluna; Birlirr Ngawiyiwu Catholic School, Yaruman (Ringer Soak); Ngalangangpum School, Warmun; and the communities of Red Hill and Halls Creek. These visits provided valuable opportunities to connect with families of past, current and future students and to strengthen the partnerships that support successful transitions to St Mary’s College and Broome Residential College.

At every stop, conversations centred on student wellbeing, educational opportunities and the support available through St Mary’s College and the beautiful Broome Residential College. These face-to-face visits provided families with the opportunity to ask questions, share hopes for their children and strengthen relationships with the staff and teams who support students throughout their educational journey.

The roadshow team was deeply grateful for the hospitality and generosity shown by Principals, school staff and community members across the Kimberley. A special thank you is extended to the Balgo Parish community, the parish priests and diocesan volunteer, whose warm welcome, friendship and hospitality were greatly appreciated and reflected the strong sense of faith and community that exists throughout the region.

We were truly blessed to be welcomed into each community and school. The generosity, openness and commitment shown by school leaders, parish communities and staff reflect the strong spirit of collaboration that exists across Catholic education in the Kimberley.

These visits highlighted the importance of genuine partnerships between families, communities, schools and residential staff. By working together, students are better supported as they transition from their home communities to secondary schooling at St Mary’s College and residential living at Broome Residential College.

The Kimberley Roadshow continues to be a powerful reminder that successful transitions are built on trust, communication and a shared commitment to young people. Through these ongoing connections, St Mary’s College, Broome Residential College and the CEWA Transition Unit are helping ensure every student feels supported, culturally safe, connected and ready to thrive.

We thank all the communities, Principals, parish leaders and staff who welcomed us so warmly and look forward to continuing these important partnerships for the benefit of our Kimberley students and families.
