Students from Years 3 to 12 at our College recently came together to celebrate Barbier Feast Day, honouring the life and legacy of Euphrasie Barbier, the patron of Barbier House and founder of the order of Our Lady of the Missions. Barbier House is one of the founding orders of our College.
The special day was led by the College’s dedicated Barbier House Ambassadors, together with House Coordinators Ms Hayley and Mr Riley, who organised a wonderful celebration of faith, community and house spirit.
The festivities began with a special Mass celebrated by Fr Liam Ryan, providing students and staff with an opportunity to reflect on the values that Euphrasie Barbier championed throughout her life. Fr Liam encouraged students to live with courage, faith and a commitment to serving others, just as Euphrasie did through her missionary work and dedication to education.
Euphrasie Barbier founded the Congregation of Our Lady of the Missions in 1861 with a vision of spreading God’s love through education, outreach and service. Her work helped strengthen Catholic education around the world and continues to inspire the mission and values celebrated within the St Mary’s College community today.
Following Mass, students gathered to enjoy one of the highlights of the day, a delicious Barbier Feast Day cake, shared among students and staff as a symbol of community and celebration.
The morning continued with a range of exciting team games and activities that encouraged participation, collaboration and friendly competition. Students across all year levels embraced the opportunity to connect with one another, proudly displaying their Barbier House spirit while building friendships and strengthening community bonds.
The leadership shown by the Barbier House Ambassadors, supported by Ms Hayley and Mr Riley, played a significant role in making the day such a success.
Barbier Feast Day provided a meaningful opportunity for students to reflect on the College’s rich heritage while celebrating the values of faith, service, courage and community that continue to guide St Mary’s College Broome.
It was a joyful occasion that brought the College community together and honoured the enduring legacy of Euphrasie Barbier, whose vision and dedication continue to inspire generations of young people to make a positive difference in the world.
