‘A Journey of Discovery and Growth’
Our Year 7 students were treated to a Retreat held at the wonderful Broome Camp School Over three days, our students embarked on a journey of self-discovery, camaraderie, and adventure, experiencing a myriad of activities designed to foster personal growth and teamwork. “Me & My Strengths,” was the theme of our retreat which set the tone for our activities. Our students were exceptional, and we could not have been more impressed with them, their families should feel very proud.
From low ropes courses to kite making, each activity was carefully chosen to encourage students to recognise their individual strengths while also emphasising the importance of teamwork. Whether navigating through low-rope elements or crafting their own kites, students learned that success often hinges on collaboration and mutual support. Throughout the retreat, students were encouraged to step out of their comfort zones and embrace challenges head-on. Activities such as climbing walls and bike education with Fat Bikes provided opportunities for students to push their limits and discover the thrill of overcoming obstacles. The sense of accomplishment that followed each challenge served as a powerful reminder of the resilience and determination that lies within each of us. Set against the backdrop of Broome’s stunning landscape, our retreat offered students a chance to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of their surroundings.
We were blessed to have Father Liam join us to celebrate Mass and provided a poignant moment of reflection and spiritual connection. We were also grateful to Georgia Toohey, Jedda Waters, Luca Trentin, Narin Kim, Summer O’Rourke, Tehya Parriman and Thomas Garstone who all volunteered to welcome us, read the Bible passage, lead us in the responsorial psalm, proclaim the Gospel acclamation, share the prayers of the faithful and present the offertory gifts during our Mass.
None of this would have been possible without the dedication and support of our staff and the team at Broome Camp School. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Roger and Teagan for their guidance and enthusiasm throughout the retreat. Additionally, we are immensely grateful for the unwavering commitment of our St. Mary’s College staff: Miss Cara as our leader, Miss Zoe, Mr Tom, Mr Naish, Miss Nat, Miss Sha Sha, Miss Jacquie, Miss Achan, Mr Cam, Miss Antonietta, and Miss Coby whose support, dedication and passion ensured the success of this retreat.
As we returned from our retreat, we carry with us not only cherished memories but also valuable lessons learned. Our students have grown in confidence, resilience, and empathy, and we are excited to see how these experiences will shape their journey ahead. Together, we move forward, stronger and more united than ever before.
Thank you to everyone who made our Year 7 Retreat a resounding success. We look forward to many more adventures and moments of growth in the days to come.
