Sixty excited Year 6 students embarked on an incredible leadership camp to Perth, where they embraced an action-packed itinerary designed to inspire, educate, and strengthen friendships. Over the course of a week, the students stayed at the Swan Valley Adventure Centre, immersing themselves in both learning experiences and adventure.

The group started their trip with a visit to Parliament House, where they gained insight into the workings of government and democracy. This was complemented by an engaging tour of the Electoral Education Centre and the Constitution Centre, giving students a hands-on understanding of the electoral process and the laws that shape our nation.

Fun and learning continued with trips to Bounce for some high-energy trampolining, Scitec to explore science and technology exhibits, and the newly renovated WA Museum Boola Bardip, which offered a fascinating glimpse into our state’s rich history and culture. The students were captivated at the Perth Mint, marvelling at the gold pouring demonstration and learning about Australia’s gold rush era. An afternoon in Kings Park allowed the kids to have fun and run of some energy!

Sports enthusiasts were thrilled to tour Optus Stadium, where they stood in awe of the iconic venue and its state-of-the-art facilities. Many students (and staff!) stood at the lockers of their sporting heroes, savouring this special moment. Meanwhile, maritime history came alive during their visit to the Fremantle Maritime Museum, where students explored vessels and spent time immersed in the Immigration Stories that showcased Western Australia’s seafaring heritage.

A highlight of the trip was indulging in a delicious fish and chips meal at the famous Cicerello’s, providing the perfect opportunity to unwind and enjoy the scenic Fremantle atmosphere. The students also made time for some shopping, with several families being able to come and visit – and absolute highlight!

The camp concluded with a trip to the Perth Zoo, where students delighted in observing animals from around the globe and spotting some familiar favourites.

Throughout the week, students demonstrated teamwork, curiosity, and leadership qualities, making the most of every moment. The camp not only expanded their horizons but also brought their cohort closer together as they prepare to step into high school as confident leaders.

A heartfelt thank you goes to the dedicated staff who supported the students every step of the way. From organising activities to ensuring everyone’s safety and wellbeing, their hard work and commitment made this camp an unforgettable experience for all involved.

The Year 6 Leadership Camp to Perth was an incredible journey, leaving students with lasting memories, valuable lessons, and a deeper appreciation for the opportunities ahead.
