Memorable and enriching

The Year 10 Retreat from June 17th to June 21st, 2024, was an incredible journey for our students. The week was filled with growth, camaraderie, and enthusiasm, making it a truly enriching experience for everyone involved.

The adventure began as we arrived in Perth and settled into the Ern Halliday Recreation Camp. Right from the start, icebreaker and team-building activities fostered a sense of unity and cooperation among the students. The excitement continued into the evening with the “City After Dark” tour, where students learned about city safety and awareness, while another group engaged in an escape room challenge that tested their problem-solving skills. The following night, the groups swapped activities, ensuring everyone enjoyed both experiences.

Our days were filled with diverse and engaging activities. An early start on the second day saw the group participating in a refreshing sunrise mind-body activity, which set a positive tone for the day. Attending Mass at Sacred Heart College was a meaningful experience, providing a moment of reflection and community. The Optus Stadium tour captivated the students, offering them a unique behind-the-scenes look at this iconic sports venue. Later, the visit to North Metro TAFE allowed students to explore various art, media, and design programs, broadening their horizons.

Exploring Fremantle on the third day was a highlight. The Notre Dame University tour provided valuable insights into higher education opportunities, sparking interest and inspiration among the students. Visiting the Construction Futures Centre further expanded their understanding of potential career paths. The day concluded with a tour of the University of Western Australia (UWA) and dinner at the residential colleges, offering an inspiring glimpse into university life and the vibrant campus culture.

The fourth day was dedicated to reflection and service. The morning session encouraged students to contemplate their future vocations and the importance of self-awareness, fostering personal growth. The Christian service activity of bike building was particularly rewarding, as students contributed positively to the community. In the evening, social activities, including dinner and bowling with Sacred Heart College, provided a wonderful opportunity for fun and relaxation. Shopping at Whitford City Shopping Centre rounded off the day, adding to the overall enjoyment of the retreat.

The final day was focused on packing up and traveling back to Broome. The students were prompt and excited to be travelling home. Time that we had on the bus to the airport as well as after we checked in, allowed everyone to reflect on the enriching experiences of the past week.

We are incredibly proud of how our students engaged enthusiastically in each activity, growing both individually and as a group. The retreat demonstrated the importance of exploring new environments, engaging in team building, and reflecting on future paths. The focus on spiritual and vocational development, combined with a diverse range of activities, ensured a well-rounded and enriching experience for all.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the staff and students who attended the retreat. Your enthusiasm, cooperation, and positive spirit made this experience truly memorable. We look forward to seeing how these experiences shape our students as they continue their educational journeys with enriched listening hearts.
