Year 1 Students Shine as Weather Reporters with SciTech Weather Wall Program

March 20, 2025

Our Year 1 students have been busy bringing science to life through their participation in the SciTech Weather Wall program. Each week, students collect and record real-time weather data, measuring rainfall and temperature using specialised equipment. They then bring their findings back to class, where they analyse the data, discuss weather trends, and compare their observations over time.

One of the highlights of the program is when students step into the role of junior meteorologists, creating their own weather introduction videos. On their designated reporting days, these budding forecasters proudly present their updates, which are featured on 7 News Regional WA. Their enthusiasm and confidence in front of the camera have been fantastic to watch.

Through this learning in action experience students are developing a deeper understanding of weather science, improved their math and data interpretation skills, and encouraged collaboration and communication. The excitement of presenting their own weather reports has also built their confidence and public speaking skills. By acting as real meteorologists, they see first-hand how science connects with the world around them.

Well done to our Year 1 students for embracing the challenge and making weather reporting both fun and educational. Tune in to 7 News Regional WA on the 27th of March at 5pm to watch!
