Congratulations to the students and teachers that participated in this initiative to Write a Book in a Day! The published book arrived this week and as you can see the students are incredibly proud. Two of the students have also written the article below to describe the experience of this collaborative writing process.
We wrote a book in a day!
On Tuesday the 18th June 2024 a team of 10 students from Year 5 and 6 arrived at school just before 7am and stayed at school until 7pm creating a book titled The Rumours at Saint Mary’s Heart.
We were given a prompt of 2 human characters(a pop star and a soldier), 1 non human-character (a shark), a setting (boarding school) and a problem(a full hospital). It was a long day of brainstorming, planning, writing, editing, illustrating, snacking and having fun. We are so grateful we were selected to be part of such an amazing day. We were very lucky to have the school order us pizza for dinner and how everyone participated in bringing a shared plate of food so we weren’t hungry after using all our brain power. St Mary’s College sponsored us to participate in the event and help children who are in hospital.
Last of all we would like to thank Miss Belinda and Miss Noreen for volunteering to give up your spare time to work with us for 12 long hours as we wrote and illustrated our book. We had the best day of the year so far!
