Along with a week of wellbeing learning, SMC celebrated and acknowledged RUOK? Day on Thursday 12th September. Students on Primary were visited by Garnduwa and Yawardani Jan-ga and offered special activities at recess set up by the Wellbeing team. Students were asked to consider the power of checking in on each other. On secondary community agencies were invited in to run activities and share knowledge and resources with the students at lunch time. Agencies included Headspace, BRAMS, CAMHS, Helping Minds, Alive and Kicking Goals, Broome Shire and more. SMC teachers and the Wellbeing team along with Clontarf and Deadly Sista Girls supported the event to provide food and music and to promote the importance of asking RUOK? A conversation can change a life and we encourage our young people to always have a listening heart and ask RUOK? Everyday.

The art piece ‘I’m Here; by Jedda Waters representing what an RUOK? Conversation means was chosen as 1 of 16 finalists from across Australia and 1 of 2 from WA for the RUOK? Art competition this year this artwork is now on the RUOK? website.
