Our College is celebrating a significant achievement after successfully securing a $5000 grant from the Kimberley Community Grants Scheme, funded by Water Corporation. This grant will be used to develop a bush garden in our existing cultural space on our primary campus, enhancing the College’s commitment to cultural education , STEAM and environmental sustainability.
The grant application was spearheaded by Zoe Court, Director of Academic Extension and Innovation, along with the dedicated efforts of our K-12 Cultural Action Team. Their vision for the bush garden aims to create a space where students can learn about native plants, traditional uses, and the importance of preserving local flora.
The Kimberley Community Grants Scheme, established in collaboration with the Lions Club of Broome, has been supporting local initiatives since 2016. Funded through the sale of Rhodes Grass hay produced at the Broome North Water Resource Recovery Facility, the scheme has awarded over $666,000 to 118 grassroots organizations, making a positive impact across the region. We are delighted to have our College being recognised and supported in this wonderful work.
The bush garden project aligns with the grant’s objectives to foster community involvement, build an appreciation of nature, and empower local communities to improve their quality of life. Our cultural garden will serve as a valuable educational resource, promoting creativity, innovation, and well-being among students and our broader college community.
We look forward to sharing our learning and the development of this space very soon!
