If you’ve ever wondered what teachers are up to during staff learning days, a walk through our primary campus classrooms would give you all the answers. Our staff recently spent two days increasing their knowledge, confidence and skills to teach writing! They engaged in an inspiring professional development experience centered around Talk for Writing, a dynamic approach to teaching writing through oral storytelling and structured learning.
Our teachers immersed in hands-on activities that mirrored the very techniques they would soon bring to their students. Our Early Learning Centre then spent an additional day learning more specific tips and tricks for our littlest learners too!Talk for Writing encourages students to internalise the structure of texts through oral rehearsal, shared vocabulary, and physical actions, making writing more accessible and engaging.
Classrooms have since come alive with storytelling, collaborative learning, and a renewed enthusiasm for writing. Students are not only learning to write with greater confidence but are also exploring different genres with creativity and purpose. Teachers have noted a significant increase in student engagement and a newfound excitement around writing tasks.
The impact of our Talk for Writing journey is already being felt, setting the stage for continued brilliance of imaginative and purposeful writing across our campus.
We are so grateful for our staff and students willing to learn and try new things to ensure the very best teaching and learning at our college. Thanks to our talented staff and our Literacy Pillar Leader Ms Rose for leading us!
