Four of our Follow the Dream Year 10 and 11 students recently had the incredible opportunity to embark on a STEM immersion in Melbourne provided by the Polly Farmer Foundation and Rio Tinto. This enriching experience, with a strong focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), provided our students with valuable insights, hands-on learning opportunities, and exposure to a variety of career pathways.

Throughout the trip, students engaged in a range of STEM-based activities facilitated by Worley, RMIT, Origin, and Inco Academy. These sessions allowed students to interact with professionals working in technology and STEM fields, helping them better understand different career options and educational pathways available in these industries. A standout moment was visiting the Worley offices, where students tackled real-world problem-solving activities, developing critical thinking and collaboration skills.

One of the most impactful experiences was designing and building water filters to support families in need in Africa and assembling torches to be distributed globally. This hands-on project not only enhanced the students’ technical abilities but also reinforced the importance of using STEM to make a positive difference in the world.

The trip also included cultural and historical explorations. Students were inspired by the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibition at The Lume in the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, where they gained insight into Da Vinci’s groundbreaking inventions and artistic achievements. Sports fans were particularly thrilled by a tour of the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), learning about its role in Australian sporting history. The adventure concluded with a visit to the Melbourne Zoo, where students explored conservation efforts and deepened their understanding of wildlife preservation.

We extend our appreciation to the Polly Farmer Foundation, Rio Tinto and the valued partners—Worley, RMIT, Origin, and Inco Academy—for creating such meaningful opportunities for our students. This experience not only broadened their horizons but also ignited their passion to pursue their interests and make a difference in their communities and beyond.

We are incredibly proud of our students for their enthusiasm and engagement throughout this journey. The Follow the Dream program continues to empower and inspire, providing our students with the tools and experiences they need to achieve their goals and thrive in the future.
