St Mary’s recently participated in the annual Kimberley 9s Carnival at Gantheaume Point, hosted by the Fremantle Purple Hands Foundation over two days. Students were selected to participate in the beach AFL competition which also involved joining in a number of activities run by health organisations based in Broome and around WA. The students got to meet Fremantle Dockers players Bailey Banfield and Michael Frederick and had a fantastic day on the beach!
Day One saw some Year 6 students and some of our students from Jarrayirr Buru attend the carnival, and on Day Two it was our selected students from Year 7 and 8. All students showcased their impressive footy talent and skills while demonstrating outstanding teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the event. The students not only played with determination but also encouraged one another, creating a positive atmosphere that highlighted the spirit of the game. Their commitment to fair play was evident, as they respected their opponents and officials alike. Each player contributed to the team’s success, making it a memorable experience for everyone involved. Overall, it was a day filled with camaraderie, growth, and plenty of fun!
