Our Year Seven artists have made an amazing start in the Gurljiwarn Art Studio.

This term they have spent time investigating the Kimberley Bower Bird (Gurljiwarn). We looked at a Gurljiwarn nest on our school grounds and admired the design and the array of objects the Gurljiwarn has collected to decorate the nest. The students generated ideas, and each designed an individual relief print following effective design rules. They learned to follow safety protocols in the studio, design principles, image transfer, using carving tools safely, how to operate the printing press and mount prints for presentation. The students are very proud of the relief prints they have produced.

The Year Seven students are starting a Ceramics unit and have been learning the process of creating functional objects using clay. They have been learning fundamental skills such as wedging clay to remove air bubbles and techniques such as creating pinch and coil pots. The Year Seven students will begin investigating marine life at Entrance Point (Yinarra), focusing on the unique diversity of species and sustainability to inform their creative clay sculptures.

We are proud of our creative, responsible and respectful Year Seven artists. We are delighted to have such talented artists and teachers leading them – thanks Miss Carlene and Miss Bonnie.
