Our College is proud to share and celebrate the inspiring journey of three of our dedicated Aboriginal Teaching Assistants (ATAs) who are currently studying to become qualified teachers through Deakin University in Melbourne. With the support of Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA), our College and their families these future educators are balancing university study with their ongoing work supporting students – demonstrating resilience, leadership, and a deep commitment to our community.

Our three First Nation ATA’s – Tarlena Rahman (Early Learning Centre ATA), Ysabelle Hamaguchi (Learning Innovation ATA), and Matilda Ogilvie Dia (Primary Campus ATA) – are undertaking their teaching degrees remotely while continuing to work in classrooms, mentor students, and contribute to the exceptional education we provide for our community.

Ms Tarlena, Ms Ysabelle, and Ms Matilda are shining examples of what it means to be lifelong learners and leaders. Their dedication to education and their passion for supporting our students is deeply inspiring. We are proud to walk alongside them on this journey.

With the support of CEWA’s professional development pathways and the flexibility of Deakin University’s remote learning model, our ATAs are:
– Building their teaching skills while applying them in real-time.
– Strengthening relationships with students and families.
– Bringing cultural knowledge and lived experience into their teaching practice.
– Inspiring students to pursue their own dreams with confidence and pride.

Their journey reflects the College’s values of Respect, Responsibility, and Kindness, and their presence in classrooms is already making a powerful impact.

These educators are not just studying to become teachers, they already are teachers – in heart, in action, and in spirit. Their journey is a gift to our College and our community.

Our college looks forward to celebrating their graduation in the near future and continuing to support their growth as educators and leaders. Their story is a powerful reminder that with courage, support, and community, anything is possible.
