In the spirit of fostering collaboration and enriching educational experiences, we welcomed the Chisholm Catholic College and Sacred Heart Primary staff during Term 1. This City-Country partnership, made possible by the Yadha Muru Foundation, allows for the exchange of expertise in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) disciplines. It also fosters cultural connections and insights that can be brought back to each school for integration into their teaching and learning.
While on the visit Chisholm staff engaged our Year 9 and 10 students through extension workshops working through the design thinking stages, igniting curiosity and encouraging deeper exploration of world issues. Meanwhile, the Sacred Heart staff collaborated with our primary students on an exciting hands-on STEM Engineering project applying design thinking to tackle challenges.
The visit was not merely about educational activities; it encapsulated a holistic experience. Cultural immersion played a pivotal role, with visiting staff engaging in small group sessions led by staff such as Cultural Pillar Michelle Hamaguchi, Aboriginal Teacher Assistant Carlene Smith, and Director of Learning Diversity Nat Giancono. Additionally, staff had an On-Country experience which included the Mangrove tour guided by Bart Pigram who offered insights into the profound history of Yawuru culture, enriching the cultural exchange.
As we move forward, we are excitedly preparing for the CEWA STEAM Showcase event in Perth. Students from years 5, 6, 8, and 9 will have the opportunity to showcase their STEAM skills, demonstrating the power of cross-level partnerships. This event not only benefits our students but also provides a platform for our dedicated staff to share resources, enhance teaching practices, and collectively contribute to our vibrant learning community.
