On Sunday 15th June, our sacred space of Our Lady Queen of Peace Cathedral was filled with joy, reverence and a deep sense of community as 29 young candidates from our Parish received their First Eucharist. The Mass, beautifully led by Father Liam and Father Patricio, marked a significant spiritual milestone in the lives of the children and their families.
The cathedral was adorned with flowers and symbols of the Eucharist, creating a prayerful and welcoming atmosphere for this special occasion. Families gathered to witness the children take part in the sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time – a moment that symbolises full participation in the life of the Church.
In his homily, Father Liam spoke about the meaning of the Eucharist as the living presence of Jesus in our lives and encouraged the candidates to always carry the love of Christ with them adding a warm message of hope and faith, reminding the children that this is just the beginning of their lifelong journey of discipleship.
The candidates, dressed in white and supported by their families and teachers, took part reverently in the Mass, each receiving the Body and Blood of Christ with grace and gratitude. Their preparation for this special day involved months of learning, reflection and prayer, supported by the parish and school communities though our Family workshop and Retreat days.
The celebration concluded with heartfelt thanks to all who played a role in preparing the children for this day – including teachers, catechists, and family members. It was a beautiful reminder of the strength and unity of our faith community.
Congratulations to the First Eucharist candidates of 2025 – may you continue to grow in faith, love, and joy as you walk in the footsteps of Christ.
