Book Week 2024

What an amazing week we celebrated as a College! On Monday morning we all gathered on Primary to launch Book Week with the unveiling of our magnificent new banner. Our theme this year was “Reading is Magic’ and we experienced the magic of stories all through the week. At our ‘Stories under the Stars’ event, we listened entranced as some very animated storytellers brought books to life while munching on snacks provided by the wonderful P & F. Timeless classics like ‘Wombat Stew’ and ‘The Magic Hat’ and new favourites were all enjoyed as the stars came out and the fire glowed. It is always a very special and much-loved part of Book Week.

Years 3, 4 and 6 had a great time with the author/illustrator Cristy Burne who was in Broome for Book Week celebrations. She is an author, a science educator and a journalist. She was able to excite and engage children of all ages!

In the weeks leading up to Book Week, all students were introduced to the shortlisted books for the Australian Children’s Book of the Year award. We read and discussed them and voted for our favourites for the gold medal. There were some of these books reflected in the costumes in the Book Parade.

The big event is always the Book Parade. Virtually the whole of Primary, students and staff, came to school in costume and proceeded to demonstrate their love of reading. There were so many amazingly detailed costumes it was difficult to choose the best! Most of the students knew which book they were from and paraded proudly around the undercover area. The staff were all magnificently clothed in outfits from the Harry Potter series much to the delight of their students. It was a great finish to our Book Week celebrations.

On Secondary, students and staff had fun dressing up celebrating this year’s theme, with staff embracing the Harry Potter stories and spending the day casting spells on the students!
