Our College community came together in faith and reflection for a solemn Ash Wednesday Mass, marking the beginning of the Lenten season. This significant occasion also saw the launch of Project Compassion 2025, reinforcing our College’s commitment to social justice, compassion, and service to others with listening hearts.
Led by Fr Liam and Fr Patricio, the Mass was a time for students and staff to reflect on their faith, the meaning of Lent, and the call to live with kindness and humility. The imposition of ashes reminded all in attendance of the journey of renewal and growth in their spiritual lives. Our students in Years Kindy to Year Two participated in Liturgies with their year levels in their classrooms for Ash Wednesday. We had Fr Liam lead these liturgies and bless ashes for all of our youngest students. It was wonderful to have families join these liturgies and our community on this special day.
On Ash Wednesday our College officially launched Project Compassion 2025, Caritas Australia’s annual Lenten campaign. The initiative encourages students to engage in fundraising and awareness activities to support communities in need. This year’s theme, Unite Against Poverty, inspires students to act with generosity and empathy, embodying the values of courage, love, empathy, acceptance and resilience.
Ash Wednesday is a powerful reminder of our faith and the importance of giving back. Through Project Compassion, we have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of those less fortunate, reinforcing our College’s commitment to compassion and social responsibility.
Students and staff were actively encouraged to participate in various initiatives throughout Lent, working together to raise funds and awareness for global and local causes. The College looks forward to another year of meaningful action and heartfelt generosity.
A sincere thank you to everyone who took part in this special event. As we embark on the Lenten journey, may we continue to lead with kindness, faith, and a commitment to helping those in need, the true St Mary’s way!
