Our College bids farewell to one of its most enduring and beloved team members, Ms Anthea Demin, whose remarkable journey with the College spans nearly five decades.
Anthea began her career at St Mary’s Primary Campus in 1977 as an Aboriginal Teaching Assistant (ATA), when students like our very own Ms Annette Bedford and CEWA’s Ms Erica Bernard were in Grade 5 or 6 – both shy and quiet at the time, hard to imagine now! From those early days, Anthea became a cornerstone of our College community, working under 15 Principals (and a few brave relief ones), across three distinct eras and four campuses:
The Sisters of St John of God, The Loreto Sisters, The Christian Brothers and OLM Sisters at Nulungu College, and finally, the era of Lay Principals.
Her adaptability and commitment saw her transition from the classroom to administration, navigating decades of change as our college evolved, amalgamated, and flourished. Along the way, she worked with four Bishops, witnessed generations of students grow, and most recently found herself enrolling the grandchildren of her first students – a testament to her lasting impact.
While Anthea is stepping away from the daily buzz of College life, her passion for making a difference remains strong. She plans to stay involved in the community, focusing on social issues and new ways to contribute. True to her humble nature, Anthea isn’t keen on a big farewell, but we will see how that goes!
As we celebrate Anthea’s extraordinary service, we feel both sadness at her departure and excitement for the next chapter in her journey. Her legacy of care, resilience, and dedication will forever be part of our College.
Thank you, Anthea, for everything. You will always be part of the St Mary’s family.
