Middle School

The Middle School at St Mary’s College provides students in Years 7 to 9 with a unique learning environment with academic, co-curricular and pastoral care programs that support the developmental needs of young adolescents.

The curriculum in Middle School is contemporary in nature and is designed to harness our students’ curiosity. We place emphasis on exploration, challenge, and enjoyment, aiming to ignite our student’s natural curiosity.

With the integration of learning technologies, our students are encouraged to explore and develop critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills. These skills form the platform for continued success in Senior School and allow them to become life-long learners and successful in their life beyond school.

The core curriculum in the Middle School includes studies in Religious Education, English, Languages, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Science, and Health and Physical Education.

As the transitional years into secondary school, Year 7 will provide students with a varied program of study. In addition to the core curriculum, students will rotate through several ‘taster’ courses that include Art, Dance, Digital Technologies, Drama, Food Technology, Music, and Woodwork.

As students’ progress through to Years 8 and 9, they will have the opportunity to choose semester-long courses in areas of study according to their interests, needs and abilities.
