An Unforgettable Trip!

As a Year 10 student, I never imagined I’d have the chance to visit Canberra, meet inspiring leaders, and gain insights into how our country operates—but that’s exactly what happened thanks to the incredible Country to Canberra Power Trip program.

The journey began with a whirlwind of excitement as a group of 15 students selected from across Australia stepped into Parliament House. Here we met influential politicians like Dr. Anne Aly, Member for Cowan, Melissa Price, Member for Durack, Senator Jacqui Lambie, Senator Penny Wong, and Senator Sue Lines, the President of the Senate. Each of them took the time to share their experiences, offering advice and stories that highlighted their dedication. Senator Penny Wong’s words about perseverance and leadership really struck a chord with me.

One of the most memorable parts of the trip was attending the Powerful Women’s Breakfast. Surrounded by chairwomen, CEOs, and politicians, I felt both humbled and motivated. Hearing their journeys and the obstacles they had overcome to achieve success made me reflect on my own aspirations. Meeting former Member for Indi, Cathy McGowan, was a particular highlight—her warmth and wisdom left a lasting impression on me.

This experience wouldn’t have been possible without the Country to Canberra program, which empowers young women from rural areas to reach for their dreams. I’d like to express my heartfelt thanks to them for selecting me, and to Ms. Zoe for introducing me to this amazing opportunity.

The Power Trip not only broadened my understanding of politics and leadership but also inspired me to think about the impact I can have in my community. I returned home filled with excitement for the future and a determination to take on any challenges that come my way.

If you ever get the chance to apply for this program, do it. It’s an experience that truly changes the way you see the world and your place in it.
