My name is Lei, and I’m a Year 10 student. I’m thrilled to share some exciting news with you – I’ve been accepted into an amazing program called Youth Parliament, where I’ll represent the Kimberley as a Youth member.

Youth Parliament is a fantastic program that elects individuals aged 15-25 from each electorate to discuss and advocate for issues that are important to them in their home area. Once elected, members are assigned to different committees. I’m proud to say that I’m part of the Jobs, Trade, and Commerce Committee!

On Sunday, April 28th, I had my first training day and committee meeting. It was an incredible experience where I had the opportunity to meet Josh Peckover, the Youth Parliament Coordinator, and other members. The training day provided valuable insights into what Youth Parliament is all about, and I’m grateful to be a part of such an inspiring program.

During our committee meeting, we discussed our goals and vision for the bill we’ll be working on. After engaging in debates and open discussions, we decided to focus our efforts on supporting small businesses and promoting their growth. It was an enlightening experience, and I’m eager to see how our bill progresses.

I’m excited to continue my journey with Youth Parliament and explore the opportunities it offers. Including leadership training and a residential camp in Perth.  For anyone interested in pursuing a career in civics after high school, I highly recommend applying to Youth Parliament. It’s an invaluable experience that teaches you key aspects of parliament and will benefit you in your future career.
