Camps & Retreats
St Mary’s College believes education extends well beyond the classroom. Through camps, retreats, and excursions, students build friendships, grow in resilience, and develop independence.
As the Bishop’s Mandate reminds us ‘Catholic schools need to provide the best apprenticeship that they can in the Christian life.’ (Bishops’ Mandate, 59).
St Mary’s College retreats and camps are a core part of lifelong faith formation — they celebrate each student’s dignity and spirituality.
Our Middle School students enjoy retreats as follows:
Year 7 “My Strengths”
A two-day Broome Camp School experience designed to help students recognise their personal gifts and how they can contribute to the group.
Year 8 “My Choices”
A day retreat focused on engaging with and service in our community with partner organisations. The day commences with a Mass celebrated with our Parish Priest at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cathedral.
Year 9 “My Relationships”
A day retreat focused on engaging with and service in our community with partner organisations. The day commences with a Mass celebrated with our Parish Priest at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cathedral.
Throughout all retreats, students:
- Integrate personal faith with daily life.
- Identify and use their strengths.
- Build self-trust, trust in others, and reflect on their Christian commitment.
- Explore prayer, liturgy, and their personal relationship with God.
- Experience community through challenges and shared reflection.
These experiences emphasise trust, respect, and communication — allowing students to grow as individuals and as part of a caring community.
