Jarrayirr Buru: Learning in Action

School News

November 7, 2025

At our college the spirit of learning is alive and thriving in Jarrayirr Buru – a collaborative and inclusive learning space that supports students across our primary campus. Designed to be adaptive and flexible, Jarrayirr Buru caters to the diverse needs of all children, fostering an environment where curiosity, creativity, and connection are at the heart of every lesson.

In Numeracy, Ms Kristy and our dedicated Jarrayirr Buru team have been guiding students through the world of fractions, using hands-on materials and engaging games to explore concepts such as halves, quarters, and thirds. These interactive activities not only make learning fun but also help build strong foundational skills. Students benefit from the incredible support of our First Nations and Education Assistants, working together in small groups to deepen understanding and confidence.

Meanwhile, in Literacy, students are unleashing their imaginations by crafting stories using the five W’s – Who, What, When, Where, and Why. Inspired by the natural surroundings of Broome, children are developing rich storytelling skills that reflect their creativity and connection to place.

Then from the Kitchen…baking trays, measuring cups, butter…guess the subject? If you said ‘English or Literacy’, you’re right! Children swapped the classroom for the kitchen in Jarrayirr Buru – a creative way to master the art of clear communication by following a recipe. Mastering the art of cooking delicious food was a bonus!

Jarrayirr Buru continues to be a shining example of how inclusive, student-centred learning can empower young minds to grow and thrive at our college.
