Our Primary campus came together in colour, culture, and community to celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day – a day dedicated to recognising the strength, resilience, and future of First Nations children across Australia.

This year’s theme, “Little Footsteps, Big Future,” honours the journeys all of our children take as they grow – each step guided by culture, community, and connection to Country. At St Mary’s, this theme resonated deeply, reflecting the College’s commitment to nurturing every child’s identity, voice, and potential through our values and expectations.

The day was filled with joyful activities and meaningful moments:
Recess Face Painting in the undercover area, led by our amazing Year 6 helpers, brought smiles and vibrant flag colours to life.
Lunchtime Craft Activities in the library gave students a chance to express their creativity while learning about the significance of Children’s Day.
In classrooms, teachers and students embraced the celebration with stories, sharing and learning.

Children’s Day reminds us of the importance of walking alongside our young people – celebrating their stories, supporting their dreams, and honouring the cultures that shape who they are, our celebration today was a beautiful reflection of that. We feel extremely blessed to have our cultural pillar leader, Ms Sarah Stewart leading us with such knowledge, courage and fun!

The celebration was not only a joyful occasion but also a powerful reminder of the College’s ongoing commitment to reconciliation, cultural learning, and empowering every child to take confident steps toward a bright future.
