On Thursday, 22nd May, St Mary’s College once again hosted the highly anticipated Interschool Cross Country event, welcoming competitors from Derby SHS and Broome SHS. With only a week’s turnaround from our Secondary House Cross Country, the event showcased the students’ resilience and dedication.
The dry season brought favourable weather, making perfect conditions for students and spectators. The competition was fierce throughout the day, particularly between Broome SHS and St Mary’s College. Ultimately, Broome SHS emerged victorious, edging out St Mary’s College by a mere 23 points.
We are so impressed with our students who delivered outstanding performances, with several securing top positions:
U/13 Male: 2nd – Joseph Mitchell
U/14 Female: 2nd – Felicity Matsumoto
U/15 Male: 1st – Max Mitchell
U/16 Male: 1st – James Mitchell, 2nd – Classio Manson
U/16 Female: 1st – Molly Bell
OPEN Male: 1st – Fletcher Moase, 2nd – Gene Burton
The team spirit and sportsmanship demonstrated by our students reflects our College values and we congratulate every student that represented our College.
At this year’s Interschool Cross-Country Carnival, students from Wiriny Buru, our inclusive education support program, proudly contributed by running a water station for the very first time. Their enthusiastic participation brought a new layer of community spirit to the event, as they handed out water and cheered on the athletes. Runners were grateful for the refreshing support, especially during the more challenging stretches of the course. The Wiriny Buru students took great pride in their role, knowing they were helping their peers perform at their best. Their involvement was a heartwarming reminder of the power of inclusion and teamwork in school events.
A special thanks goes to the HPE department and Wiriny Buru students and for their invaluable support in hosting this event for our local schools on our fabulous grounds. Your efforts are greatly appreciated and contributed to the success of the day.
Congratulations to all participants for their remarkable achievements and sportsmanship!
