Our Year 4 Walag class as part of their STEAM Learning for Term Three set off on an exciting excursion to the Walaja Broome Bush Honey Shed. After a short bus ride, we were warmly welcomed by David Appleby, who generously showed us through his huge shed where all the honey is carefully extracted from the hives.
It was a truly enlightening experience where students not only learned about the importance of bees in our environment, but also had the chance to taste delicious, freshly harvested honey. A definite highlight was enjoying the honey on some yummy damper!
Back in the classroom, our clever students are now putting their new knowledge into action by creating their very own bee hotels. This activity helps us to understand how we can all play a role in supporting and protecting our bee population.
The students represented our college wonderfully, showing curiosity, respect, and enthusiasm throughout the day. It was a fun and memorable excursion that combined learning with hands-on experiences.
