This term, our Year 2 students have been busy stepping back in time to explore the rich history of our local community in Broome. Through their learning, students have discovered significant people, places and the natural environment, developing an understanding of how the past continues to shape our community today.
Students investigated how these important aspects of Broome have changed over time and why they remain meaningful. From learning about key historical figures to exploring iconic local places and the unique environment, our young historians have shown great curiosity and enthusiasm.
A highlight of the term was the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning experiences. Students explored an “old museum box,” examining artefacts and asking questions about what life may have been like in the past. This tactile approach helped bring history to life and allowed students to make meaningful connections with their learning.
To further consolidate their understanding, students also visited the Broome Historical Museum, where they were able to see real historical objects and exhibits up close. This experience deepened their knowledge and sparked even more interest in Broome’s fascinating past.
It has been wonderful to see our Year 2 students so engaged in a hands-on approach to history, building their understanding of the past while recognising its importance in our lives today.
