Some of our secondary students were given an exciting opportunity this week to explore future career pathways through a special presentation delivered by the Australian Defence Force (ADF). Representatives from the Army, Navy and Air Force visited the College to speak with students about the many roles, training options and entry pathways available across the Defence Force.
The session drew strong interest from across our College community. All Clontarf and Deadly Sista Girlz (DSG) students from Years 11 and 12 were in attendance, alongside a number of other Year 11 students eager to learn more about life in the ADF. In a wonderful surprise, even some enthusiastic Year 7 students joined the presentation, demonstrating a growing sense of curiosity about their future careers.
Students heard about a range of options, from foundation and bridging courses to direct ATAR pathways, highlighting that there is no single route into Defence careers – just many opportunities tailored to students’ strengths and aspirations. The ADF team also shared personal experiences, training insights, and information about scholarships, apprenticeships, and university-supported programs.
In addition to the student session, St Mary’s College staff were invited to an ‘influencer breakfast’, where they received valuable information on how to guide and support students who may be considering a Defence career. This collaboration strengthens our College’s commitment to helping young people pursue meaningful and achievable pathways beyond graduation.
The visit provided inspiration, clarity, and excitement for students – many of whom are now exploring options they had never considered before. Our College looks forward to continuing this partnership with the Australian Defence Force and supporting students as they dream big and plan for their futures.
