Our secondary campus was delighted to welcome the incredible students and staff from John Pujajangka-Piyirn Catholic School, Mulan, this week, as their Year 5, 6 and 7 students and staff visited our College for a morning of exploring and experiencing secondary school life.
The visit formed an important part of the students’ transition journey, providing a valuable opportunity to step into a high school environment and begin imagining their future pathways. Accompanied by their incredible staff, the John Pujajangka-Piyirn Catholic School students made the most of their time on campus, immersing themselves in the daily rhythm of College life.
Throughout the morning, students explored a range of classrooms and learning spaces, observing lessons and engaging with the vibrant atmosphere that defines our College. For many, it was their first time experiencing a secondary school setting, and the opportunity helped build both confidence and excitement about the next stage of their education.
A highlight of the visit was the leadership shown by our current St Mary’s College students with connections to remote communities, who proudly stepped into the role of tour guides. Their enthusiasm, encouragement and willingness to share personal experiences created an immediate sense of connection for the visiting students, showcasing the supportive and inclusive culture of St Mary’s.
These peer-led moments were particularly meaningful, reflecting the strong connections across our Kimberley Catholic schools. Seeing familiar faces and hearing firsthand experiences helped the John Pujajangka-Piyirn Catholic School students feel welcomed and inspired as they consider their own future journeys.
In addition to exploring the campus, students were introduced to the expectations and values that shape life at St Mary’s College. They heard directly from current students and staff, along with our Clontarf Academy and Deadly Sista Girlz about respect, responsibility and making the most of every opportunity – key messages that will support a successful transition to secondary school. A highlight was a visit to the chickens and sunflowers in Wiriny Buru and cooking with our amazing Miss Kendra and Miss Kiki, experiencing learning in action!
Following their visit to St Mary’s College, the group continued their Broome experience with a tour and induction at the Broome Residential College, further supporting their understanding of pathways available to them as future boarding students.
Importantly, the morning was more than just a transition visit – it was a celebration of community, culture and partnership. Strengthening the connection between John Pujajangka-Piyirn Catholic School Mulan and St Mary’s College remains a priority, and opportunities like this play a vital role in building relationships and creating a strong sense of belonging.
