Our College and parish communities gathered in faith, prayer and celebration as students received the Sacrament of Confirmation in a beautiful Mass led by Bishop Tim Norton. Families, parish members, college staff and students came together to mark this important milestone in the spiritual journey of our Confirmation candidates.
In preparation for this sacrament, students participated in workshops, a retreat day and ongoing learning through both the college and parish. These experiences helped students deepen their understanding of faith, prayer and the role of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Families also played an important part in supporting and encouraging candidates throughout their preparation.
During the Mass, Bishop Tim Norton shared a meaningful message about how the Holy Spirit is always with us, guiding and strengthening us in daily life. He encouraged the candidates to use their gifts to serve others with kindness, compassion and courage, reminding them that each person has been blessed with unique talents to contribute to their community and the world.
The Sacrament of Confirmation is one of the Sacraments of Initiation in the Catholic Church. Through Confirmation, candidates are sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit and strengthened in their relationship with God. It is a sacred moment where young people publicly affirm their faith and commit themselves more deeply to living as followers of Christ.
Students reflected on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit – wisdom, understanding, right judgment, courage, knowledge, reverence and wonder and awe in God’s presence. These gifts help guide all of us to make good choices, live faithfully and support others within our community.
The celebration also highlighted the Fruits of the Holy Spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. These fruits are the visible signs of God’s spirit alive in our lives and are qualities students are encouraged to carry into their families, friendships and daily interactions.
Fr Liam and Fr Patricio co-celebrated the Mass, helping create a joyful and prayerful occasion for all in attendance. The St Mary’s College Choir beautifully led the heartfelt celebration through song and music, adding to the reverence and spirit of the evening.
College staff were also acknowledged for the care and dedication shown in preparing and supporting students throughout their Confirmation journey. The celebration was a meaningful and memorable occasion for the entire College community, celebrating the faith, growth and commitment of the young people receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.
