Despite a rainy start to the week that forced the cancellation of our Whole College Mass, our community came together in a beautiful and faith-filled way to mark the beginning of Lent with Ash Wednesday celebrations.
In the calm of the early morning on Wednesday, students, staff, and families gathered for a special Community Mass led by Fr Bryan and Fr Victor. Their message reminded us that Lent is a time to be people of hope, kindness, and renewal. An opportunity to reflect on how small acts of compassion can make a profound difference in our school, our families, and our wider community.
During the Mass, our ashes were blessed and distributed, symbolising a shared commitment to growth, reflection, and humility during the Lenten season.
Following our Mass, students from Kindergarten to Year 12 participated in year level liturgies held in our dry and safe classrooms across the College. These moments of prayer and reflection helped students explore the true meaning of Ash Wednesday – understanding its symbols, its origins, and the invitation it offers to pause, reflect, and strive to be better and ashes distributed.
The day was a reminder of the strong spiritual heart of St Mary’s College and the resilient faith of our community. Even when plans change, our commitment to coming together and honouring our traditions remains unwavering.
