The 2026 West Kimberley Careers Expo was a resounding success, with exhibitors, teachers, and students all enjoying career exploration, networking, and, of course, the acquisition of some popular Expo giveaways!

Students from Years 6 to 12 attended the Expo over two days, engaging with more than 50 businesses and organisations operating across the West Kimberley region. This provided a valuable opportunity for students to see the real-world career pathways available within their own community.

Research shows that early exposure to career opportunities fosters curiosity and informed decision-making, and the Year 6 students certainly rose to the occasion, asking thoughtful and insightful questions of exhibitors. Senior students made the most of their time by networking with organisations that could soon become their employers, while also connecting with providers of traineeships, apprenticeships, and further study options.

An exciting addition for St Mary’s this year was the involvement of our Certificate II Creative Industries students, who are studying with Goolarri Media. The students hosted a live broadcast from the Expo, interviewing exhibitors, fellow students, and event staff about their experiences. The broadcast formed part of their assessment, and while nerves were high at the start, the students rose to the challenge and did a fantastic job!

The West Kimberley Careers Expo remains a highlight of the careers calendar, and by bringing together local industry and young people, it strengthens community connections and helps build a confident, capable future workforce for the West Kimberley.
