What a special week it has been for our college as we were blessed to host both the Migrant Jubilee Cross and the relics of St Carlo Acutis, providing our community with a unique opportunity to reflect on faith, hope and holiness. It was a great delight to be joined by St Martin De Porres, Notre Dame University and Our Lady Queen of Peace Cathedral Parish community for this special celebration.
The Migrant Jubilee Cross, travelling across Australia as a symbol of solidarity with migrants, refugees and all who journey in search of a better future, invited us to reflect on the Gospel call to welcome the stranger and recognise the dignity of every person. In Broome, a town shaped by First Nations culture and generations of people from many lands, the Cross served as a powerful reminder that we are one human family united in faith. This message is at the heart of our reconciliation mission and inclusivity for one and all.
We were also honoured to welcome the relics of St Carlo Acutis, the Church’s first Millennial Saint. Born in 1991 and canonised in 2025, Carlo was an ordinary teenager who loved sport, technology and spending time with friends, but he had an extraordinary love for Jesus in the Eucharist. He used his gifts to share the Gospel and showed young people that holiness can be lived in everyday life.
The relic visiting Australia, a portion of the membrane surrounding Carlo’s heart, is a powerful reminder of his deep love for Christ and his commitment to sharing his faith. During Mass, Fr Liam reminded us that holiness is something to which we are all called, echoing Carlo’s belief that “holiness and happiness go together.”
For our students, St Carlo is a relatable example of how faith, kindness, service and prayer can make a difference in the world. His message is simple yet powerful: holiness is not something distant or impossible, but a calling for each one of us.
We extend our sincere thanks to Fr Liam, Fr Patricio, Bishop Tim and the relics pilgrimage team for bringing both the Migrant Jubilee Cross and the relics of St Carlo Acutis to the Kimberley. Their visit has been a wonderful blessing for our College and community. May St Carlo’s example inspire us all to live with faith, joy and purpose.
