Year 4 students were buzzing last week as they explored the local Walaja Bee Farm!
Dave Appleby was an unbelievable host and guide, teaching students about bee life cycles, the process of pollination and the methods of extracting honey from hives. At the end of the excursion, students were lucky enough to sample some bread and freshly extracted honey, with the verdict being…. delicious! 🍯
This experience provided students and opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the importance of bees in the environment and the issues facing current bee populations. This will no doubt play a pivotal role towards the end of the term, when students will be designing and constructing ‘bee hotels’ for their Design and Technology project!
It was a wonderful excursion and we can’t thank Dave enough for his time! You too can enjoy delicious Walaja honey – available in local stores!
