Students from St Mary’s College together with catechist students from Our Lady Queen of Peace Cathedral, joyfully celebrated the Sacrament of First Holy Communion on the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord.
The celebration was the culmination of a meaningful journey of faith, guided by Fr Liam, with the support of college staff, families, and the wider parish community. In preparation for this special day, students and their families participated in a Retreat Day and Family Workshop, offering time for prayer, reflection, learning, and connection. These moments strengthened understanding of the Eucharist and highlighted the importance of family and community in faith formation.
The First Holy Communion Mass was a beautiful and prayerful celebration, with Fr Patricio and Fr Liam co‑celebrating. The reverence and joy of the occasion were enhanced by our wonderful parish choir, who led the congregation in joyful singing. A special blessing song for the candidates was a particularly moving moment, affirming each child as they received the Eucharist for the first time. The celebration cake at the end of Mass was enjoyed by all!
The celebration reflected the deep sense of community shared between the college, families, and parish, and was a joyful reminder of Christ’s presence among us. We congratulate all our First Holy Communion candidates and give thanks to the staff, catechists, clergy, choir, and families who supported them on this important step in their faith journey.
