As part of our 2026 NAIDOC Week celebrations, students from Years 5–12 took part in a fun and engaging NAIDOC Week Scavenger Hunt, with each year group participating at different times throughout the week.

Working together in teams, students explored the school while completing a variety of creative, cultural and community-focused challenges. From finding places that represent the Kimberley and learning more about the significance of the Yarning Circle, to creating imaginative team photos and answering questions about NAIDOC Week, every challenge encouraged students to work together while celebrating First Nations and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and achievements.

One of the highlights of the week was seeing students from different year levels supporting and encouraging one another. The scavenger hunt provided a fantastic opportunity to build new friendships, strengthen existing connections and showcase the positive sense of community that makes St Mary’s College such a special place. There was plenty of laughter, creativity and teamwork on display, with students embracing every challenge with enthusiasm and school spirit.

A special thank you goes to the staff who enthusiastically joined in by posing for photos, answering students’ questions and helping make the activity such a memorable experience.

The NAIDOC Week Scavenger Hunt was a wonderful reminder that learning can be active, meaningful and fun. Most importantly, it gave students the opportunity to come together to celebrate NAIDOC Week, deepen their appreciation of First Nations and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and continue building a strong, connected and inclusive school community.
